The Best of 2012

Taking a moment to look back on some of the goals I set for myself in 2012:

In 2012 I plan to learn how to do Double Knitting and finish a sweater that actually fits! There will be more lace and more socks.

That was a few of the goals I set for myself. I have to say that I did finish a sweater that actually fits x 4! Wasn’t planning on that, but it just sorta happened. I didn’t learn any double knitting, but it is on my list for 2013.  I’m not sure there was really all that much lace in 2012. There were definitely socks!

Here are some of my favorite projects from the year. I had 33 in total which is 12 more than 2011!

My Wish

This shawl is lovely. It’s a huge size which makes it great for wrapping up in. I used it mostly to cover my shoulders in the summer when I was wearing tanks outside and would go indoors and freeze in the AC.

Tappan Zee Cardigan

This is a favorite garment of mine. Started in late 2011, it was finished just in time for the hottest and driest summer on record. I love it, but probably won’t be wearing it much because the angora in this yarn SHEDS! It sheds more than my dog! I wear it and find yellow fiber on EVERYTHING! Also it needs to be sub-zero temps to wear it as it is super warm!

Honey Cowl

This is the coziest cowl I have knit to date. I’m wearing it right now in fact. It’s my go to if I’m a bit chilled in our house or at my office. I knit it up with  3 balls of Jojoland Rhythm. This has to be a perfect blending of yarn and pattern.

I’m not a toy knitter, but knitting this Basil Brontosaurus up made me one for a week. Rebecca Danger is a rather talented designer and these toys are super adorable. This went to a close friend’s son Liam.

Featherweight Cardi

This wasn’t on my original list of things to knit, but on a whim I dug out 2 skeins of Malabrigo lace that I had in the stash and knit this up. I love it. Super lightweight and great for covering up those shoulders in the summertime.

Dark and Stormy Cardigan

Looking at my project page for this, I really need to get some better photos of this sweater. I knit it up this fall and it is by far my favorite sweater I own out of even my store bought ones. The cables really pop with the Cascade 220 yarn and I love the shawl collar detail.

Honorable Mentions

Monkey Socks – I finally joined the legions of sock knitters and knit myself a pair. Love them and more are in the future!

Windschief Hat – I made this on a whim for my husband and I’m really glad that he loves it so much. It’s his go to hat this winter!

Noro Striped Scarf – This still hasn’t been delivered to the recipient, but this is one of my favorite scarves I’ve knit and I see one for myself in the future!

This has overall been a great year in knitting for me. I even added spinning to the mix so be prepared to see more of that in 2013. More talk on that in my 2013 Year Beginning post in a week or so. I became comfortable knitting garments for myself that fit well. I learned how to modify those patterns to make them fit a bit better. Socks became a norm for me as well. I’ve got 2 unfinished pairs on the needles right now! I can’t wait to see how I grow as a knitter and now a spinner in 2013.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

  1. These are all wonderful projects! I have heard about angora shedding. I bought some Toots leBlanc yarn which is angora and merino. It does not shed one bit and just blooms over time, meaning it gets softer.
